Phyllis Schlafly is the most brilliant woman I have ever met. I am humbled to know her as a best friend and mentor.
Phyllis epitomizes Winston Churchill’s words spoken in 1941 to students at his childhood school: "Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense."
The eternal optimist, Phyllis has led millions of women and men with her unique ability to turn immensely complex issues into terms that instill knowledge. Her personal example of abounding energy united with her unwavering personal integrity has led to countless victories in the political sphere and undoubtedly countless more in homes across America.
This unique combination of talents enabled Phyllis to educate and train millions of women to proudly proclaim their undying commitment to their God, their families and their country. Against tremendous odds, those ladies reaped an overwhelming victory over the feminists who chose to deny God’s plan for their strongly unique role as wives and mothers and the myriad of blessings afforded them in our constitutional republic.
Phyllis’ defeat of the misnamed Equal Rights Amendment is now recorded in textbooks, but it is so much more than a historical accomplishment. It emboldened women to pursue their God-ordained high calling to be wives and mothers, as well as to stand for those principles in their homes and wherever else their individual gifts and talents took them.
I have had the privilege to personally experience Phyllis’ passion to train up next generations. I have greatly benefitted from her tutoring as president of Texas Eagle Forum since 1993. Those same lessons I applied as chairman of the Republican Party of Texas for a short term during challenging times, leaving the party much stronger than when I arrived. Since 1995, I have carried Phyllis’ teachings around the globe to United Nations meetings defending our American ideals.
In sum, my life has been largely shaped by Phyllis Schlafly, which has taken me far beyond anything I ever imagined. By example, she continues to teach millions of us to dedicate our lives to the One Who gives a deep, deep reassurance of strength and courage each step of the way.
