Betsy DeVos

Elisabeth 'Betsy' DeVos, a Michigan philanthropist who leads the American Federation of Children, is the nominee by President-elect Donald Trump to be the Secretary of Education.

DeVos is a creationist who supports charter schools with minimal government regulation. Due in large part to her efforts, Michigan has no limits on the number of its charter schools, and has vibrant participation by for-profit management companies in its program, into which Michigan pours $1 billion annually. Liberals criticize the program, as in this article here, but admit that many of the top-performing schoolsin the state are charter schools.
